The Goodnature automatic humane possum trap is in production.

The trap’s are $130 + GST ($149.50) per unit which includes everything to get you started except a square-drive screwdriver and a bit of pre-feed for the tree.

Pest: RAT – Rattus rattus (ship rat)

- 150-200mm (+200mm tail)
– light brown or grey fur, thin tail, large ears
– native forest, scrublands, urban environments
– nocturnal, omnivorous


Introduced pre 1800 by early ships to New Zealand the ship rat is internationally unusual in it’s distribution; due to the lack of native mammals it is pervasive throughout native forests. Control Tool: H9.03

Pest: FERRET – Mustela putorius furo


- 480-560mm (130mm tail)
– brown, black, white or mixed fur
– pastoral habitats, scrublands, forest fringes
– crepuscular, carnivorous


First introduced in 1879 at the demand of farmers to control increasing rabbit populations. Hybrid with European polecat, bred to increase survival in the wild.

Pest: RABBIT – Oryctolagus cuniculus

- 340-450mm grey, brown,
– large hind legs, long ears
– grassland nocturnal, herbivore


Introduced pre 1840 to provide game for sport, food and reminiscence. Rabbits are able to bread prolifically when there is high food source as well as survive extended droughts.

Pest: STOAT – Mustela ermina

- 340 – 400mm
– brown back, pale belly, bushy tail tipped black
– inhabits from beach to remote high country
– crepuscular, carnivore


Introduced in 1884 to control rabbit population the stoat can be found almost everywhere in New Zealand. The stoat is a fierce predator and can cover large distances.

Pest: POSSUM – Trichosurus vulpecula

- 200-550mm (+tail)
– brown or grey fur, bushy tail,

- large ears
– arborial nocturnal, folivore


Introduced in 1837 to establish a fur trade an estimated 70 million possums are now present throughout approximately 92% of New Zealand. The possum is also a vector for Bovine Tuberculosis.
