Field observation video of Henry automatic possum trap in Sunny Grove.  Result was five dispatched possums after the seven nights.  The automatic trap was baited with Ferafeed smooth in a tube on the biter with no pre-feed or blaze on the tree.  Four large scale trials are planned to be established in April 2011 examining the effect of automatic possum traps on pest populations over time.

Now that the Henry Automatic Possum trap has succeeded in the ethics trials we have begun some uninterrupted field observations.

Just to build you a picture, the tip of the Henry automatic possum traps’ piston drives through the possums skull causing massive trauma to the brain. This renders the animal immediately and irreversibly unconscious.  The first two images illustrate the type of damage which didn’t cause sufficient trauma even though accurate targeting was achieved.

The initial triford design had an outer diameter of 8mm, this accounts for nearly 1/3 the diameter of the brain casing, the next uses no blades and a solid striker.

For a consistent and effective kill, we use a piston 11mm diameter ( equivalent to a tea-cup diameter compared with the human) which expels the expanding gas into the cavity to further damage the delicate brain.
